My Love Affair with Astrology
Only a few interests have stayed with me my entire life and astrology is one of them. It all started when I was a small child and my Mom and I would go to the grocery store. They sold these tiny little tubes of rolled up paper that had the monthly horoscope forecast for Aries, which is my Mom’s sun sign. After she was done reading it, she would give me the extra long narrow paper that would scroll right back up as soon as I rolled it open. Although I wasn't old enough to read, I remember the tiny paragraphs with hearts, dollar signs and other symbols along with a line graph predicting the ups and downs of her month. By the end of that month the paper was tattered, worn, and usually ripped in a couple places. Every time we were at the check out I’d ask her if she needed a new one yet, and if I could have one as well.
As I got older, reading my horoscope in magazines and newspapers became a ritual. Then, I discovered birth charts, and my mind was blown! I’d spend hours reading about my chart, my friends charts, my families charts and the charts of pretty much anyone who knew their time of birth.
I started collecting every astrology book I could find. Searching online for all of the astrology information. Let me tell you, they’re not all winners. I eventually learned enough to know which sources were good, and which ones were a waste of my time. Eventually getting to the point where I was the resident astrologer at work, and personal astrologer to my family and friends.
I was very excited to see that more zodiac inspired jewelry was finally being sold. The only thing was, I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, or what I wanted was extremely expensive. So, I did a little research and swung by the craft store, and there it was! A treasure trove of stuff, things, bits, pieces, tools, accessories and other whatnot's. Finally, I could make the jewelry I’ve always wanted. After several tutorials, and making a few, well actually a lot, of very hideous and completely unusable pieces. I actually got pretty good and thought to myself, maybe other people would like my designs and artwork too.
Another life long interest of mine has been all things metaphysical. I had a sense of just knowing spiritual information that I could not otherwise have had any previous knowledge of, starting out at a very young age. Which, I didn't fully understand till I got older. I started collecting crystals and gemstones around the age of 8, and I bought my first tarot deck about the time I was 13. I loved watching movies and shows with mystical plot lines and reading books about the esoteric.
In blending being an artist by nature, a background in business, aptitude for research and retaining random information it has all led to a vocation and career that I can truly throw my heart and soul into. My dream has always been working for myself – and so Opulent Transcendence was born!
I hope you all enjoy my work and creations as much as I do.
Sincerely, OT
